Purchased at the 2026 KayJay Bull Sale for $51,000, V812 was, for us, the pick of an exceptional line of Mountain Man sons offered at both KayJay and Kaharau Angus during the record breaking 2026 bull selling season. Meadowslea Mountain Man combines the two most influential bloodlines at Meadowslea, Turihaua Crump and Meadowslea F540, resulting in consistent lines of quality progeny wherever he has been used. At the 2026 Kaharau Bull sale the 3 sons offered sold to $165,000, averaging over $100,000 – surely a record for any sire in NZ History!

V812 is out of a cow sired by the high performing Merchiston Steakhouse 489, and this cross is proving to be the most successful at KayJay, adding exceptional hindquarters to the Mountain Man sons. Further back in the maternal pedigree, the Pauline family have bred some of the very best at KayJay and trace back to one of their greatest ever matrons – Totara Hills 598.

V812 has a very well-balanced data set, excelling in the key traits we value for profitable beef production. His fertility is very strong with good size and shaped scrotal, and a short days-to-calving figure of -7.3 days, ranking in the top 3% for the breed. He has beautiful soft fleshing with a body condition score in the top 9% for the breed.

Structurally he is close to perfect, and this shows in his fluid movement and beautifully balanced pull-up. He stands up on very good feet, and his back legs track perfectly.

We rate V812 as one of the best bulls we have ever purchased and eagerly await the arrival of his progeny.

Meadowslea Victor V338

Retained in the stud in 2026 with a half-share Australian semen rights sold to Australian interests.

Victor has a wonderful traditional NZ pedigree tracing back to the great Turihaua Jake no less than 8 times, and a further 4 times to Hingaia 469. He is a son of Turihaua Tornado who was purchased in 2021 and is breeding very sound, deep bodied cattle with superb feet and leg structure.

The maternal side of the pedigree incorporates the very best of Meadowslea bloodlines. He is out of a cow by our carcase merit bull Meadowslea M564, whose dam is the great G1000 – sold for the NZ record price for a 10-year-old cow of $16,050 to Ballanee Angus, Australia. G1000 has an EMA in the top 1% for NZ. She is now 15 years old and about to be flushed to Victor V338.

Victor is another bull from the legendary cross of Turihaua Crump and Meadowslea F540 that produced some of our most successful cattle, including Meadowslea Mountain Man.

Victor has an SRI index in the top 6% for the breed, derived from his exceptional fertility traits, with both his scrotal and short days-to-calving ranking in the top 10% for the breed. As always, this fertility is driven by easy fleshing with his rib fat figure in the top 5%, and body condition ranking in the top 20%. He has inherited exceptional EMA from his maternal grandmother G1000 and ranks in the top 12% for the breed.

This is a moderate framed, deep bodied bull with exceptional hindquarter, terrific structural soundness, superb temperament, and a true sire’s head. 

Meadowslea Victor V338

Turiroa Vulcan V926 was purchased at the 2026 Turiroa Bull sale. We were searching for a heifer mating sire with impeccable structural soundness in a moderate early maturing frame. Vulcan certainly ticks a lot of boxes with his perfect feet and leg structure, classic Angus head and soft easy fleshing. He has great depth of body with a strong hindquarter and very good balance.

His bullet proof pedigree features some of the greats of the NZ Angus breed including Kaharau Class 790, Zodiac 1st of Kaharau, Turihaua Crumble, Braveheart, and Hingaia 469.

Vulcan has a clean shoulder with strong calving ease figures and low birth weight to ensure trouble free heifer calving. He has exceptional scrotal size, ranking in the top 4% for the breed, indicating his daughters will achieve puberty early and re-breed early every year.

Vulcan is a great choice for heifer mating to breed sound replacement females that will be efficient, profitable types and last in the herd for years.

As Andrew Powdrell described him in his catalogue - “He is a very hard bull to fault” and in our experience it is those bulls that breed the best!

 

Turihaua Steel V229

Turihaua Steel V229 was purchased at the 2026 Turihaua Bull Sale. We were attracted to his exceptional depth of body and powerful head and bone. He displays many of the true Angus attributes that are hard to find these days.

Paul Williams commented in the catalogue – “If you want Turihaua blood then this is the one to look at.”  He certainly has plenty of Turihaua legends in the background including Crumble, Campbell and the great Turihaua Jake. His pedigree also features Hingia 469 and Braveheart of Stern, so no doubt he will breed the sound, true Turihaua type that perform so well in our environment.

Steel has strong carcase data with good EMA, plenty of rib fat and IMF. He exhibits lovely soft fleshing and is thick and square with a great top line. He has the head and outlook of a true sire.

 

Meadowslea Snowstorm U270

Meadowslea Snowstorm U270 has been retained in the stud for 2025. He was the standout from Rainstorme’s exceptional first crop of sons and was our first choice to use as a yearling to mate our stud heifers.

He is out of an exceptional Crump cow, and this is the exact cross we had in mind when we purchased Rainstorme for $81,000. She is breeding wonderfully well with her previous son Toby T172, sold at Lot1 in our 2024 bull sale to GlenR Angus at $20,000.

This is a very strong maternal pedigree with the great Hingaia 469 appearing twice – through Crump, and also through the pedigree of Achiever A320 of Kenhardt, who was sired by Stern Exact, a very good son of Hingaia 469.

Grandam J538 is a top cow who has produced 8 very good progeny with several daughters retained, as well as a top Lazarus daughter sold at lot 10 in our 2022 female sale to Westfield Angus.

Snowstorm is a beautifully balanced bull with incredible easy fleshing backed up with rib and rump EBV’s in the top percentile for the breed. His wonderful clean shoulders endorse his calving ease figures which rank in the top 10% for the breed. His milk figure ranks in the top 5% for the breed and he has a moderate cow weight below his 400-day indicating the very efficient cow performance we aim for in harder hill country.

His carcase data is also very strong with his EMA of +8.6 placing him in the top 5% for the breed in NZ, while his IMF sits in the top 25%.  He is deep thick and square with an exceptional hindquarter and superb easy fleshing. A great choice for both heifer and cow mating. 

 

Kaharau Utopia U361

Kaharau Utopia U361 was purchased at lot 2 in the 2025 Kaharau Bull Sale. He is a beautifully sound, compact, easy fleshing bull with an outstanding hindquarter - as good as you will ever see!

He displays the classic wedge shape with a wonderful clean shoulder, great neck extension and balance, allowing him to pull-up perfectly every time with the style and presence of a true sire.

A look back deep into his bloodlines reveals some of the greatest ever breeding sires of the NZ Angus breed you will ever see lined up in one single pedigree! Hingaia 469, Turihaua Crumble, Turihaua Tiger, Turihaua Jake,  Waimata Zulu 689, and Zodiac 1st of Kaharau all feature ensuring exceptional structural soundness and longevity. More recent sires include the great Matauri sires of Reality and Resolution ensuring maternal strength and fertility traits.

Utopia was a standout at the Kaharau bull sale and has continued to impress all who have inspected him recently. He has been entered into the 2025 Australian Angus Sire Benchmarking programme with his first calves being born there this spring. He is now being made available to all Angus breeders in Australia and New Zealand.

 

Meadowslea Thunderstorm U359

Thunderstorm was sold at lot 1 in our 2025 Bull Sale to Delmont Angus for $36,000, with semen export rights retained at Meadowslea. He was the first 2-year-old son offered from the $81,000 Rainstorme sire who is breeding so consistently well for us.

Thunderstorm had an incredible growth pattern through to his sale as a 2-year-old – he was second heaviest at weaning out of 230 bull calves, the 4th heaviest at 400 days, and by sale time he was the heaviest sire ever presented at Meadowslea.

His maternal pedigree goes back to Crump, Goldwyn 17, and one of our greatest ever cows - A330, who shows up in so many top pedigrees, including Meadowslea Mountain Man and Sudeley Viking! Some of the greatest ever NZ bred bulls feature in behind him, with Turihaua Crumble, Turihaua Crump, Hingia 469 and Waimata Zulu 689, as well as Matauri Reality 439. His mother lead the offering of 10-year-old cows in our 2026 Female Sale, and was sold to Kyle Caires in the USA to enter an embryo programme.

This is a powerful bull with wonderful foot and bone and terrific structural soundness. He has a true sire’s head and a wonderful quiet temperament. The first of his calves are arriving in Australia with glowing reports to date.

Kincardine Rainstorme R25

Purchased for $81,000 in May 2022, Rainstorme has developed into a beautifully balanced, very structurally sound sire. He now has over 450 progeny across 30 herds in both NZ and Australia, reinforcing his highly predictable data set, which has only improved since he was purchased.

His progeny is easily identified in any herd that he has been used, with wonderful clean shoulders, terrific depth of body, and exceptional hind quarters.

His calving ease figures are industry leading, as are his milk and scrotal size. Now that the first of his daughters are in production, his short days-to-calving figure has also improved to rank within the top 20% for the breed. With over 200 progeny now carcase scanned and genomic tested, he has proven to be passing on his massive EMA to all his offspring. He ticks a lot of boxes and is a very versatile mating option.

Rainstorme is a true “curve-bender” with strong early growth which levels out by the 600-day, and he has an exceptional low mature cow weight giving the true efficiency we seek in the modern Angus cow herd. His sons and daughters are standouts wherever he has been used, and he has two top sons with semen available in this catalogue.

Turihaua Crump E5

Turihaua Crump is recognised as one of NZ's most influential and long-lasting senior sires of recent times. He earned his place in our front paddock until 14 years of age. A traditional NZ Angus hill country type with proven industry-leading fertility, Crump has sired over 450 outstanding progeny in NZ and Australia which are always highly sought after. His sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons have sold at top prices for studs across NZ, to a top of $165,000. His grandson Meadowslea Mountain Man R705 sold for $92,500 to KayJay Angus, the highest price 2-year-old bull sold in NZ in 2022. His daughters have been the top breeding females in the Meadowslea herd and have proven to be exceptionally fertile and productive on our hill country. These highly fertile daughters have resulted in him now ranking as a breed trait-leader for the key fertility trait of short days-to-calving. His DTC EBV now sits at minus 8.8 days – ranking in the top 1% for the breed. He has been used with great results in over 25 Angus studs and consistently breeds wonderfully sound females with exceptional fertility and longevity that provide a solid foundation for any breeding programme. The Crump X Meadowslea F540 cross is legendary and has resulted in some of the highest priced Angus cattle sold in NZ.

Very limited semen is left available and we offer only 10 straws in NZ and 10 in Australia.

Meadowslea U181

Meadowslea U181 was retained in the stud in 2025. He was the pick of a very strong draft of sons by Meadowslea R818 and was selected as a yearling to mate with adult stud cows.

He has a very strong pedigree being sired by R818 who was sold to Jade Park Angus in Australia for $24,000 in our 2022 bull sale, and goes back to the legendary Meadowslea bulls Meat Machine and F540. On the maternal side he is out of a very good 2-year heifer by Turiroa Panther who combines the blood of the widely-used Goldwyn Napolean H817, and our all-time great Turihaua Crump E5. The maternal grandam was our greatest-ever F540 daughter and was the dam of Meadowslea Mountain Man, sold to KayJay Angus for $92,500 with semen rights to Kaharau Angus.

U181 is a deep bodied traditional NZ hill-country type bull. He displays a wonderful deep rich coat and has the exceptional easy doing attributes so important for efficient cow performance in harsh environments. His moderate mature cow weight figure, below his 400-day, reflects this efficiency, and his strong rib fat ranks him in the top 10% for the breed. He has good muscle with strong hindquarter and IMF in the top 15% for the breed too.

Tangihau T613

Tangihau T613 was purchased at the record-breaking 2024 Tangihau bull sale. For us, he was the standout bull in the offering, with exceptional muscle and soundness in a moderate frame. Weighing in as one of the heaviest bulls on sale day at 850kg, he continued to gain weight after shifting down to Meadowslea in the middle of winter to be an impressive 900kg by mating time.

Sired by the high performing Shian 18-563, who bred all the high-priced Tangihau stud bulls in 2023, his pedigree features the very successful cross of the Reality and Braveheart bloodlines.

T613 has exhibited exceptional 200-day growth, levelling out at the 600-day, and with a very efficient mature cow weight figure well below his 400-day weight. These are the figures we aim for, to ensure our cows can maintain their condition and perform year after year on native hill-country. T613 has very strong muscle that is matched with an exceptional hindquarter and immaculate feet and leg structure.

The first of his calves were standouts at birth, very impressive at weaning and now look to be some of the very best yearlings we have.

We really rate this bull and love his ability to hold his condition through mating. T613 is a very complete package with wonderful style, presence, and superb temperament. 

Atahua 59-22

Atahua 59-22 was purchased at the final Atahua bull sale in June 2024. He was selected for his exceptional depth and thickness, together with outstanding eye muscle area which ranks in the top 5% for the breed. He was sired by the $60,000 Kaharau 589, who was a top Braveheart son of his year, and carries some of the best known Kaharau blood lines with Waihohonu 113, Kaharau Class 790, and Zodiac 1st all featuring in the pedigree. His dam is a proven 11-year-old cow who produced 9 calves in 9 years. 59-22 is a moderate framed, deep bodied bull with strong calving ease, short gestation, and low birthweight. He has moderate growth with a very efficient moderate cow weight that is well below his 400-day. His scrotal size ranks in the top 5% for breed, as does his exceptional eye muscle area at +9.3. He has the easy doing ability we look for in the hill-country with good rib fat. This is a very well-balanced, stylish bull with true Angus quality head and bone, and a wonderful skin and coat. Suitable for mating heifers and cows to produce easy-doing efficient females for profitable hill-country beef production.

The first of his yearlings on the ground are very true to type, with quality heads and great skin and coats on them. We expect them to be very impressive 2-year-olds by sale time. 

Meadowslea T234

Meadowslea T234 was retained in the stud in 2024. He was used as a yearling to mate heifers together with his half-brother T172, who was later sold at lot 1 in our 2024 Bull Sale to Glen R Angus for $20,000.

His sire Meadowslea P674 is leaving exceptional depth and thickness in all his progeny with outstanding muscle and hindquarters. This a pedigree stacked with proven depth, performance and longevity and features all the great old sires used at Meadowslea in recent times, including Turihaua Crump, Meadowslea F540, Meadowslea Meat Machine, and Goldwyn 17 as well as two shots of Braveheart.

T234 has calving ease, with very short gestation, and super low birthweight making him a terrific option for heifer mating. He has moderate growth with the very efficient smaller mature cow size we look for, well below his 400-day weight. He is unmatched for depth and thickness with a true sire’s head.  His easy fleshing and do-ability is evident with his very strong fats and his EMA ranks in the top 15% for the breed in NZ. T234 is very suitable for mating heifers or cows to breed efficient, profitable females for the harder hill-country.

Meadowslea Quartz Q250

Quartz Q250 was retained in the herd in 2021. He was selected for his structural soundness and to continue the exceptional EMA passed down from the descendants of his paternal grandam Meadowslea G1000, whose EMA sits at a whopping +13sq cm. G1000 was sold as a 10-year-old to Ballanee Angus in Australia, for a NZ record of $16,000 and shows up in the pedigrees of many of our top animals. Quartz has an EMA in the top 6% for the breed.

Quartz scanned with the best EMA and IMF of his year group, as did his sire M564 who is a direct son of G1000 (and who also has semen in this sale). Quartz has a powerful pedigree being out of a grand-daughter of Crump and going back to one of our greatest old cows A330, who is the granddam of Meadowslea N166 and the great-granddam of Meadowslea P700, Sudeley Viking, and Meadowslea Mountain Man. A330 descendants all have plenty of IMF and Quartz is no exception, ranking in the top 20% for the breed in NZ. His great grandam F530 was another great old cow with the top IMF scan of her year and was sold as a 10-year-old cow to Helmsdale Angus.

Quartz is a moderate-framed bull with great soundness and balance about him. He has a great data set with calving ease and super low birth weight, and the efficient moderate cow size figure we look for - below his 400-day weight. He has elite fertility, with both his scrotal and short days-to-calving in the top 5%. His carcase data is exceptional, all combining to give very good index figures.

Quartz is another of these classic F540 x Crump crosses, that have bred so many good cattle for us at Meadowslea over many years.

Meadowslea M564

(NZ)

Retained in the stud in 2018, M564 is a son of the legendary Meadowslea F540 and out of our record-breaking cow G1000, who was sold to Ballanee Angus Australia in our 2021 Female Sale for a NZ record price of $16,000. She was sired by the high-performing Glanworth 08-16 and also features the great Hingaia 469 in her pedigree. G1000 scanned with the biggest EMA of her year group and now boasts an EMA +13sq cm.

We selected M564 to use as a yearling after he had scanned with the biggest EMA ever recorded in the stud, and he is consistently passing this on to all his progeny. He has short gestation with moderate birthweight and the very strong fertility traits of good scrotal size and short days-to-calving. A moderate-framed, easy-doing type which is reflected both in his strong rib and rump figures featuring in the top 2%, and his body condition score in the top 1%. With good IMF as well, he has a terrific spread of figures for hill-country resulting in very strong index figures.

His young daughters are outstanding, and the first two of his 2-year-old daughters bred sons in our 2023 bull sale to Turiroa and Tarangower Angus Studs. Our 2026 keeper bull Victor V338 is also out of a lovely M564 daughter.

Meadowslea Q178

We retained Meadowslea Q178 in the stud in 2021. He had been a standout from weaning, and we rated him as the best yearling we had ever bred when we selected him to mate a selection of top heifers. In the 2021 mating he was used heavily – firstly out with a selection of top heifers for a cycle and then 2 full cycles with adult cows. He maintained his condition exceptionally well and settled all in-calf.

Q178 exhibits superb breed quality and structural soundness with exceptional depth of body and hindquarter. He has a strong NZ pedigree with his sire Rangatira 16-209 tracing back twice to the great Zodiac 1st of Kaharau. His sire-of-dam Meadowslea K018 bred very well for us and is also the sire-of-dam of Meadowslea Thunderstorm U359.

The first of Q178’s 2-year-old sons were the real feature of the 2024 bull sale with all 7 displaying the same depth, thickness and exceptional hindquarters. His semen has sold to some of the leading studs in NZ as well as being exported to the US and Australia. 

Meadowslea R646

We retained R646 as our first-choice keeper in 2022. He had been the stand-out yearling in the spring of 2021 with his exceptional width across the top and powerful hindquarter, making him a clear choice to use as a yearling over a top selection of adult cows. He offered us outcross bloodlines with a powerful pedigree. His sire Meadowslea M429 was sold to Red Oak Stud for $18,000 and was sired by the $100,000 Rangatira 13-38. M429 is out of one of our greatest ever cows G922, who is also the dam of Meadowslea N166 who sired Meadowslea Mountain Man, NZ’s highest price bull in 2022. R646 also has a strong maternal pedigree, with his dam M542 going back to Braveheart of Stern, while his maternal grandam H205 was a great productive cow with very strong EMA and fats, who was transferred in our 2022 Female Sale to Albert Hill Angus as a 10-year-old.

R646 has very strong growth with good fertility traits and easy doing fats, with a body condition score in the top 5% for the breed. R646 calves are always standouts at weaning and have continued to impress with wonderful width across the loin and deep powerful hindquarters. His young daughters are very impressive, structurally sound types and probably the best heifers entering in the herd in the last 2 years.

Turihaua Tornado Q336

Turihaua Tornado was purchased at the 2021 Turihaua bull sale. He is a deep bodied, thick barrelled bull with very good structure and superbly sound feet and legs. His sire Torpedo has bred some of the best carcase bulls at Turihaua in the last few years and the sire of dam, Rex, is also leaving thick cattle with great spring of rib. Tornado has great muscling throughout with a top hindquarter, easy doing fats, strong EMA.and good IMF. He is very well balanced and we love his soundness and docility. This bull is the unbreakable type that lasts and does the job in the toughest country. The first of his 2-year sons featured strongly in our 2024 Bull Sale with superb structural soundness and exceptional muscularity. We rate this bull highly and are thrilled with the first of his very functional productive females entering the herd.

Tornado is the sire of our 2026 keeper bull, Victor V338, who exhibits many of his sire’s great attributes.

Meadowslea R818

Meadowslea R818 was sold at lot 4 in our 2022 Bull Sale to Jade Park Angus in Australia for $23,500. The bull himself remains domiciled in NZ at Meadowslea where he has been used over stud heifers and cows with great success.

R818 was a standout calf right from the start and we consider him to be possibly the best Meat Machine son we have ever bred. We selected him to use as a yearling with his great calving ease, short gestation, and moderate birth weight making him an ideal choice for mating a top selection of stud yearling heifers. He has a powerful maternal pedigree with his grandam’s sire the well-known Meadowslea F540. His maternal great grandam C1047 was one of our greatest ever breeding cows and was the dam of F801, a cow sold to Australia for embryo transplant who shows up in many of our leading pedigrees.

R818 has inherited the exceptional depth of body and massive hindquarter of his sire Meat Machine and passes on wonderful easy-doing and early maturing attributes to all his progeny. R818 has developed into a very impressive 6-year-old with superb muscle and thickness. The first of his two-year-old sons featured strongly in our 2024 bull sale including lot 38, T106, transferred to Turihaua Angus. In our 2025 bull crop he bred retained sire U181 (with semen offered in this sale). His daughters are very impressive, thick square types and some of the best young females in the herd.

Meadowslea N166

Sire of NZ's top price R2yr bull in 2022 - Meadowslea Mountain Man R705

We retained N166 in 2019 and rate him as possibly the best Turihaua Crump son ever! He is out of a top-performing Glanworth 08-16 cow (G922) who was sold in our 2021 Female Sale to Ballanee Angus Australia for $9,300. She also bred our top price bull in 2018; M429, sold to Red Oak Stud for $18,000. The first progeny from mating N166 as a 2-year-old were the outstanding feature of our 2022 bull sale catalogue, with lot 24, Meadowslea Mountain Man R705, selling for the highest price for any 2-year-old bull in NZ in 2022 at $92,500. Mountain Man has bred outstanding progeny at both Kay Jay and Kaharau, and this year at Kaharau his 3 sons offered averaged over $100k with a top of $165k.

N166 is a very powerful bull with tremendous head and jaw. He has a top pedigree behind him with his maternal grandam the great old cow A330, who is also the great-grandam of Sudeley Viking, Meadowslea Thunderstorm U359, and Meadowslea R646.

He has superb balance and outlook, is very sound footed and his wonderful easy fleshing sees him ranked in the top 3% of the breed for body condition score.

Kenhardt U123

Kenhardt U123 was purchased at the 2025 Kenhardt bull sale. He has developed exceptionally well since arriving at Meadowslea and now exhibits one of the best hindquarters you will find anywhere. His natural easy fleshing and do-ability is superb, and we are eagerly awaiting his first calves being born.

U123 has a very strong pedigree, being a son of the $92,000 Cricklewood Pandemic. His dam Kenhardt N1115 is one of the top cows in the Kenhardt herd, producing 7 calves to date and displaying a wonderful deep square body type with perfect udder attachment. Her sire Kenhardt Kruz K437 is out of another very top perfoming Kenhardt ET Donor Cow X733, who had 21 calves registered, including our very own Achiever A320 of Kenhardt. This is a pedigree featuring many of the great NZ-bred bulls with Hingaia 469, Waimata Zulu 689, and Kaharau Lancer appearing multiple times.

U123 has moderate birth weight followed by breed average growth. His carcase data is very strong with EMA in the top 20% for the breed. His rib and rump fats sit in the top 15% for the breed highlighting his exceptional soft easy fleshing.
