2023 Female Sale Result
Posted: 15 May 2023
A big thank you to all our buyers, underbidders, and supporters after what was a great in-calf female sale result!
With the new Punaroa Downs property fully stocked now, and 700 stud females mated in 2022, we were able to offer a larger catalogue of 132 stud females this year, with 131 selling on the day.
Strong Australian interest was a real feature, with 7 cows being purchased by Jade Park and Pound Creek Angus studs, to be flushed for embryo transfer programmes.
A total of 58 females were sold for stud transfer, with strong commercial interest underpinning the remainder of the sale.
Top price of $8,500 was paid by Picton Park Angus for an R3yr heifer, lot 71.
The highest price R4yr cow was lot 95, sold to Pound Creek Angus, Australia.
The highest price R2yr heifer was lot 5, sold to Fossil Creek Angus for $6,100. This animal was offered on account of Ballanee Angus, Australia, who purchased her mother G1000 for the record price of $16,050 in 2021 as an in-calf cow.
The R10yr cows also sold well, with the top-equal price of $3,800 being paid by KayJay Angus for lot 116, and Gowans Angus for lot 123.
It was great to see buyers chasing the top females on type and soundness, as well as the strong fertility and maternal traits we chase in our cattle.
There was also considerable competition for females in-calf to some of our top mating sires, particularly the $81,000 Kincardine Rainstorme and our home-bred Meadowslea Q178.
The sale was run through our Yourbid online Helmsman auction platform, with 121 / 131 animals being sold to purchasers who were bidding remotely. This included 45 being sold to the North Island and the 7 purchased from Australia.
Overall average was a little over $2,200.
With only a few left to go on trucks we're just starting to catalogue our 2023 Bull Sale now - and with more to pick from than ever the lineup is looking exciting!
Everyone is of course welcome at the Bull Walk next week, and the 2023 Bull Sale is Friday June 23rd 1pm.
